Money Math Madness

Too much with the alliteration? Ok, well, we do have fun.

Blueberry is finishing up Kindergarten math concepts so we're making sure she has a solid grasp of money values. We found some cute books at the library. Our favorite so far is "A dollar, a penny, how much, and how many?" by Brian P. Cleary.

We did coin rubbings, and wrote the name and value of each coin. Then we did sorting with some play money I found at the dollar store.

If you've never done rubbings, simply peel the label off a broken crayon. Darker colors work best. Experiment with pressure to see what turns out best for you.

Materials Exchange

Blueberry and I visited our local non-profit materials exchange place. They had a dollar-per-bag sale and we came away with some fun things for craft projects.

I took my 4 year old and I loved to see how random objects sparked her imagination (and mine). Repurposing and reusing items is a great way to stay on budget while homeschooling. Some cities have materials exchange opportunities, but you can always look at your local thrift stores.

I can't wait to see what we come up with.

This is a bracelet Blueberry made with a cardboard spool, some paint and some rhinestone stickers we have been saving for a project such as this. She gave the bracelet to her Nonna.

Thankful: Day 18

I am so thankful for my daughter. I can't believe the conversations we can have already and she is only three years old. I plan to nurture that relationship so she will always know I love her unconditionally and I am always there for her.

My bond with my mother is something I cherish. I hope that one day my daughter will cherish our relationship as much. She is such a beautiful person, inside and out. I look forward to will enjoy watching her mature and grow (but there is no hurry).

I am so blessed to be able to focus on being a mother at this point in her life.

Family Hike and Science Factory

We started off our week with a family hike. Blueberry has taken an interest in our point and shoot camera so I have been showing her how to take pictures with it. She takes pictures of flowers, people and her toys.

During Nonna's visit this week we took advantage of the nice weather and opted for a day at the park. Blueberry needed to get outside.

The Science Factory preschool program has started. We are lucky to have friends to go with this year.

He always falls asleep in the carrier.

We made a butterfly out of construction paper, then she painted it Rorschach-style with multiple colors. She has a lot of watercoloring experience so putting a "big blob" on her page was something new and different. Here is the result:
